Eating Natural Food Can Help You Prevent Disease

By: Jhady Arana May 19th, 2017

Yeah, you read that right! You don’t need medicine if you don’t get sick.

If you’ve ever sat down to read up on fruits, vegetables, or other natural foods, you probably noticed that EVERYTHING prevents one or several types of disease! That’s kind of nuts right?! That means it’s possible to avoid getting sick if you eat right!

Many of the “new” diseases that are so common now were triggered by the industrial revolution. Processed foods, agrotoxics, conservants, artificial fat and sugar, pollution… and the list goes on. All because of mass production of food. The way we eat was totally transformed by big companies whose only goals were to make food taste good by adding fake flavors and spend as little as possible.

You might be thinking: How am I supposed to know what’s healthy and what’s not?

That’s why we’re here! We want to help you achieve the goal of living healthy! We want to simplify it! For us, healthy food = real food. These are foods that are fresh and come unpackaged or foods that don’t have a long list of ingredients (especially the kind we don’t recognize!).

Check out some of the natural foods you can find at the grocery store and how they can help you to live and eat healthier:

Vegetables: lettuce, pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, tomato, beetroot, cabbage, potatoes, carrots… Vegetables have several health benefits. They are sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and they’re all fairly low calorie… They should be part of our daily diet and are fundamental for those who want to lose weight.

Include at least two different vegetables in all your meals. Try not to overcook them, this kills their nutrients (and their taste).

Fruits: banana, orange, papaya, watermelon, grape, apple… They are fundamental parts of a healthy diet and, like vegetables, have several benefits. They contain lots of fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals capable of preventing many diseases.

Try to eat 3 portions of fruit a day! Breakfast and afternoon snacks are a great time to eat fruit!

Whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat, oatmeal, corn… Whole grains tend to be high in many nutrients, including fiber, B-vitamins, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, selenium… it depends on the type of grain.

Instead of eating white bread or regular pasta, choose whole wheat bread or pasta. Instead of eating chips or crackers, eat popcorn.

Nuts: almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts… These bite-sized nutritional powerhouses are packed with heart-healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Avoid the industrialized ones, the nutritional level tends to be lower.

Nuts are tasty to eat and a great option for an afternoon snack. Try, for example, to buy different types and eat a variety.

    • Why do you have a hard time? Don’t you like to eat them? If yes, try to add some taste to it, olive oil, parmesan cheese, a sauce… If even like this is hard for you, you can mix small pieces into other foods. My mom used to triturate vegetables and mix in the sauce, then I wouldn’t see and wouldn’t feel the taste. It worked perfectly! 🙂
