10 Great Reasons to Get Excited About Toast

You can do WAY more than peanut butter and jelly.

I love bread. LOVE it. Pretty much all kinds. Banana bread, rye bread, sourdough bread, whole grain bread, focaccia, garlic bread, tortillas, flatbreads… as long as there is bread somewhere, I’m all about it.

Here’s the thing though, while bread is delicious, it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer us on the nutrition front. If you’re buying your bread it’s typically highly processed, contains more sugar than it should (like really, who puts sugar in bread though?), lacks vitamins and minerals, and is full of empty calories that will leave you feeling hungry within the hour.

Thankfully, there are things you can do to spice up your toast experience. Here are 10 great (and healthy!) reasons to get excited about toast.

1 …because you can top it with yogurt, avocado and granola

This healthy fat, high-protein combo packs a whole lot of crunch! A slice of this is guaranteed to keep both your mouth and tum satisfied for a couple of hours.

2 …because you don’t have to settle for PB+J

We love a good PB+J as much as the next guy, but why stop there? Why not go all out like @nourishedbykale and throw in ghee, banana, cacao nibs, seas salt and coconut goodness?

3 …because labneh and pickled jalapeños are a wonderful combo

Make this if you’re a fan of flavor. This open-faced sandwich is a delightful wake up call for your tastebuds, trust us.

4 …because you can eat vegan and still have cream cheese

We wish we’d come up with this: cottage cheese with roasted broccoli, red pepper flakes, salt, olive oil, and lemon – if that doesn’t sound delightful to you, nothing ever will.

@thecrunchyradish knows how to make great toast. Hers is piled so high with food you can barely see it! Here’s whats on her toast: turkey bacon, roasted tomatoes, za’atar, eggs, avocado, and arugula. That’s a mouthful!

7 …because scrambled eggs on toast never gets old

Have you ever tried scrambling your eggs with harissa? You should. It’s a simple upgrade that adds a whole other flavor dimension to the eggs, especially when paired with avocado and some vegan cheese.
