A journey towards a healthy and happy You

What to Do When You Really, Really, Don’t Feel Like Working Out

By: Femi Agbaje-Williams April 4th, 2017

It’s simple, but you might not like it.

A couple weeks ago I got sick, and after that my motivation to work out was at an all-time low. All-time low. To say that I didn’t feel like working out would be an understatement. Here’s how I dealt with that.

I just did it.

Well, I didn’t just do it. I told myself I didn’t have a choice.

I knew if I let my feelings dictate whether or not I worked out, I’d end up skipping it.

Now if I could guarantee that skipping the workout would only happened once, I don’t think it would have been as much of an issue, but I am 99.9% sure that if I allow my feelings to win once, it’ll just make it easier for me to say ‘I don’t feel like it, I’ll skip it’, going forward.

Here’s the thing: I never feel like working out.

NEVER.

I know that I should work out, and that’s why I do it.

It can’t be about my feelings. It’s got to be about what I want to achieve in life; and what I want is to be fit, healthy, and self-disciplined. Wanting that is great, but it also puts the onus on me to make it happen. It means that I have to make choices every day that build towards that. Working out is one of those.

Long story long, don’t let your feelings be the decider. If you don’t feel like it, ask yourself what you want ultimately, and then grit your teeth and do what’s necessary to get the job done.

It’s probably not going to be your favorite 30 minutes or hour of the day, but choose to do it anyway and you’ll reap the results. Totally #worthit.

  • I workout after work a bit. Mostly cardio. But I otherwise am sedentary. Can working out let me change my activity level on the app?
